Friendship has rarely felt so good or hurt so bad, nor have father-son relationships caused more joy or pain than they do in Chaim Potok’s exquisite coming-of-age novel The Chosen, adapted for the stage by Aaron Posner and Potok and now making an absolutely superb Fountain Theatre debut.

HIGH SOCIETY

The Philadelphia Story meets Cole Porter in the rarely-produced High Society, and though hardly one of Broadway’s Greatest Hits, its one-night-only Alex Theatre revival once again proved Musical Theatre Guild a master of the concert staged reading.

VIOLET

A physically scarred young woman takes a road trip towards healing and redemption in Jeanine Tesori and Brian Crawley’s New York Drama Critics’ Circle-winning 1997 off-Broadway musical Violet, streamlined for Broadway in 2014 and now opening Chance Theater’s 20th-anniversary 2018 season in an intimate staging that is as imaginatively directed as it is powerfully performed.

THE UNAUTHORIZED MUSICAL PARODY OF JURASSIC PARK

Three sequels and counting, forty-three video games so far, five different theme park rides, comic books galore… Jurassic Park just keeps on entertaining, and never more so than at Rockwell Table + Stage where executive producer/writer Kate Pazakis and her all-Equity cast of triple-threat musical theater zanies have once again gathered to spoof a Hollywood movie classic like it’s never been spoofed before in The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of Jurassic Park.

IRONBOUND

A dark cloud may seem to follow Polish immigrant Darja across New Jersey, but that doesn’t stop Marin Ireland from lighting up the stage like nobody’s business in the West Coast Premiere of Martyna Majok’s astringently funny, surprisingly affecting Ironbound, now getting a superb West Coast Premiere with its original off-Broadway leading lady joining it for its five-week visit to L.A.
