IN YOUR ARMS
Monday, September 28th, 2015
Dance and romance reign supreme in In Your Arms, as thrilling an Old Globe World Premiere as I’ve seen in a good long while and one that most definitely deserves to be Broadway-bound.

KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN
Sunday, May 24th, 2015RECOMMENDED
Kander and Ebb’s Kiss Of The Spider Woman is back in a rarer-than-rare revival at Santa Ana’s Theatre Out, news that would be a good deal more exciting were its leading lady a better fit for the title role.

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN

Actors Repertory Theatre Of Simi gives its audiences the best big-scale musical I’ve seen at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center in their sensationally entertaining mid-sized staging of Broadway’s 2011 Best Musical Tony nominee Catch Me If You Can, a production that requires no allowances to be made “for community theater.” This is topnotch work from start to finish, and a production any professional theater would be proud to call its own.

RAGTIME

Director Tito Covert-Ortiz has restaged his Scenie-winning vision of Terrence McNally’s Corpus Christi with its original star Jeffrey Fargo at Santa Ana’s Theatre Out and the result is an even more powerfully moving production than it was at Long Beach’s Garage Theatre the first time round.

A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE
Monday, March 24th, 2014
The lives of couple dozen “unimportant” Dubliners are bestowed the significance they deserve in Torrance Theatre Company’s beautifully performed intimate-stage production of Terrence McNally, Lynn Aherns, and Stephen Flaherty’s 2002 off-Broadway musical A Man Of No Importance.

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN

Charismatic conman Frank Abagnale, Jr. is up to his old tricks again, but this time he’s doing it “Live In Living Color” as the Segerstrom Center For The Arts presents the National Tour of Catch Me If You Can, the Broadway musical adaptation of Steven Spielberg’s popular 2002 biopic, and a wow of a show it is, filled with one catchy tune after another, plenty of pizzazzy production numbers, a castful of sensational performances, and a surprising dollop of heart.
