Un Trabajo Como Otro Cualquiera (A Job Like Any Other) was recently awarded two major awards at this year’s Brisk Festival L.A., held from August 16 to September 7 at Santa Monica’s Morgan-Wixson Theatre.
Competing against 15 other Spanish-language 10-minute one-acts, Un Trabajo Como Otro Cualquiera’s writer-director Jorge Moratel won his Best Of The Fest award for his delightful script, one that had 20something Sofia (Andrea Casamitjana) introducing her fiancé Javier (Daniel Ramos) to her parents Antonio (Carlos Reig-Plaza) and Carmen (Gemma Ibarra), neither of whom was at all pleased to discover what their future son-in-law’s “job like any other” actually was.
Under Moratel’s lively direction, the entire cast sparkled, and none brighter than Ibarra, whose array of reactions from “pleased to meet you” to dismayed to thoroughly disgusted had voters awarding her Best Actress honors over multiple competitors.
