THEY CALL ME MISTER FRY
JACK FREIBERGER'S SOLO THEATRE PIECE, IS BACK WITH A NEW TAKE ON NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND
June 2008.......Writer-performer, Jack Freiberger, is back on the Los Angeles theatre circuit presenting a rendition of his original work, They Call Me Mister Fry, playing at both the Whitefire Theatre in Woodland Hills and the fanaticSalon Theater in Culver City.
What happens when a white boy from Indiana starts teaching at Southern California's most elite school and ends up teaching 5th graders in South Central Los Angeles. You'll find out in this funny yet poignant solo show that follows the true story of Jack Freiberger's first year in a South Central classroom. Complex situations develop; characters come alive, including alter-ego King Arthur; as we witness the teacher become the student.
Freiberger originally developed his show in Mark Travis's solo show workshop in 2001. Despite his first run's critical acclaim, Freiberger decided to return to full time teaching for six years. In 2007, he started to piece the show back together. The heart and facts of the show remain, but he wanted to update it by weaving in his experience with No Child Left Behind, enhancing the drama by adding video sequences that he shot and edited. It has paid off as Freiberger has been chosen to perform Mister Fry at this year's New York International Fringe Festival taking place in August.
An actor and fully credentialed teacher who resides in Santa Monica, Jack Freiberger's film credits include The Salmon Run, The Story Lady and Enemies Within. Among his recent stage performances are Two Gentlemen From Verona, Arsenic and Old Lace and Three Penny Opera. He has acted in and done voice work for over 30 educational films produced through Media, Inc. Trained in the Meisner technique, Freiberger also studied with The Shakespeare Company and Adam Roake's Film Acting Lab. He is also a freelance entertainment journalist who writes for several magazines.
