Who would have thought that a play about the exorcism of an elderly Jewish New Yorker's tormented (but otherwise lovely) granddaughter would also be the most romantic show around town. But it is. Not only that, The Tenth Man has about as fine an ensemble of older actors (60s/70s/80s) as you’ll ever see.
The role of the possessed granddaughter is double cast, and the night I attended, Tania Gonzalez gave an absolutely heartbreaking (and dazzling) performance--truly spectacular work by an young actress with a future in the biz.
She is surrounded by what is without question the most experienced ensemble in L.A. (the magnificent John Ruskin is 82 years young!) in a play which is not only fascinating and informative (I learned a lot about Jewish culture) but funny as can be, and ultimately a profoundly beautiful and moving love story. (Alex Craig Mann's performance as Gonzalez' troubled savior is every bit as good as hers!)
My only quibble--Act 1 is about 20 minutes too long—too much of a good thing. But forget that--Just go see this show! MAY 2006, SKYLIGHT THEATRE, LOS ANGELES.
