What’s left? Divorce, of course. Hence the title of her new show, “Shift Happens.” The subtitle, “A (Piece of) Work in Progress” refers to her, not to her material, which is ready for prime time. Not quite a solo show (she’s backed by two terrific musicians), “Shift Happens” has Juliette insightfully and hilariously playing a variety of women (as she did in “Something in Her Genes,” wisely not letting it be all about her). Juliette, newly divorced, is a single mom, tentatively entering the dating world again. Like any Westside divorcee, she has a therapist. More importantly, she finds solace in the company of the women of The Brentwood Divorcee Club. They’re a widely (and wildly) varied bunch, including the club chair named Tinker, a high-maintenance wonder who’s a one-woman showcase for the cosmetic surgery industry; another woman with food issues, who’s never found a man as satisfying as a baked potato; a woman who followed her marriage with a desperate lesbian affair; a transplant from Atlanta whose husband had “a chick on the side.” The fact of the women of The Brentwood Divorcee Club turning to each other for friendship and emotional support will resonate immediately with any fan of “Sex and the City.” Juliette willl never be completely alone. She has a daughter who is constantly a source of amazement and delight to her. This is a show with songs, many of them written expressly for this show by Juliette, musical director Mitch Kaplan and director Clifford Bell. There are also a few evergreens in the mix. Juliette moves about the stage with the fluid grace of the trained dancer (with great gams) that she is. Juliette has appeared with the Second City ensemble, in films (“Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Xanadu,” “Eating”), and multitudinous guest starring appearances on television episodics, movies of the week and specials. Director Clifford Bell has over 30 years of experience, with credits including “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” “Shattered Secrets,” “From Thing to Thing to Thing,” “Sexual Sushi,” and has directed many musical performances, including “Direct From Broadway” (with Tony winners Debbie Gravitte and Michael Maguire), Katey Sagal’s touring show, and many acts at Hollywood Roosevelt Cinegrill. “A vivacious…actress with an endearing onstage persona and considerable natural charisma”----L.A. Weekly “Juliette Marshall exudes the calm, confident beauty and sensuality that is the stuff of men’s dreams.”---L.A. Daily News You won’t want to take your eyes off her.
