OIL CITY SYMPHONY
TO STAR AUTHORS AND ORIGINAL CAST MEMBERS AT FCLO MUSIC THEATRE
Mike Craver and Mary Murfitt, two of the original stars and co-authors of the Off-Broadway Best Musical winner “Oil City Symphony”, will star in the FCLO Music Theatre production playing July 11 through July 27 in Fullerton’s renovated Plummer Auditorium.
Mr. Craver also co-composed the music for “Radio Gals” and “Lunch at the Piccadilly”, and was a member of The Red Clay Ramblers for 12 years. He also was music arranger and music director for the original Off-Broadway production of “Smoke on the Mountain”.
A former symphony orchestra concert mistress, Ms Murfitt turned her attention to composing for the musical stage and was the creator, composer/lyricist , and star of “Cowgirls”, which originated at the Old Globe in San Diego and later played Off-Broadway as well as FCLO Music Theatre with the original Broadway cast. Her “Petticoat Rules”, based on the female sheriff of Jackson Hole, Wyoming in the 1880’s, is an annual summer event in that city. Her most recent work, “Home” (originally called “Orphan Train”) is based on factual events involving the movement of orphans from the East by train to the Western frontier to work on the ranches there. In 1996 she was commissioned to compose the music for “Dare to Dream Foundation” video series with Sandra Day O’Connor, Diane Sawyer, Chris Evert, Sally Ride, Sherry Lansing and Beverly Sills.
“Oil City Symphony” requires actors who can sing, act, and play several instruments on stage. The music ranges from “The Hokey Pokey” to The Anvil Chorus”, interspersed with very humorous situations cleverly created by Craver and Murfitt.
