West Coast Ensemble's first production (Douglas Carter Beane's Music from a Sparkling Planet) in their interim smaller space is a perfect fit for the former (and gorgeously referbished) home of Company of Angels, and a perfectly wonderful evening of theater for anyone who's ever wanted to revisit a happier time in their lives. Three 30something friends (2 straight/1 gay) find themselves each at a crossroads, and set out on a journey to locate Tamara Tomorrow, the children's TV hostess who made their childhood sparkling and the future bright with promise.
The entire cast (Chris Damiano, David Kaufman, Kelly Lloyd, John O'Brien, Michael Spellman) excel, with special mention due to the divine Miss Lloyd, who brings humor and depth to the fictional Tamara and her real life alter ego Sharon Pierce. Richard Israel once again proves himself a director to be reckoned with. The many delights of Act 1 are a mere preamble for the emotional wallop Act 2 packs. There are only a few weeks left in the run. Do try to visit this Sparkling Planet! MARCH 2007, WEST COAST ENSEMBLE, SILVERLAKE.
