Action! Theatre Company presents
One of the great plays of the Twentieth Century…

INHERIT THE WIND
Written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee
Directed by Tiger Reel

HOLLYWOOD: A classic courtroom drama that stands the test of time, Inherit the Wind puts on trial our perceptions of what is “right” and “wrong”. Although the play is a fictional re-creation of the Scopes “monkey trial” of 1925 — in which a Tennessee high-school science teacher was tried for including Darwin’s theories of evolution in his curriculum — it easily fits into the ongoing battles of morality and belief systems in today’s environment. Even as humankind becomes more sophisticated in our thought processes, at the end of the day we are still struggling to understand the basic truths in the world around us.

“I am trying to establish, Your Honor, that Howard-or Colonel Brady-or Charles     Darwin-or anyone else in this courtroom-or you, sir-has the right to think!”
 -Act II, Sc. 2

In this innovative production helmed by director Tiger Reel-
“Reel oversees a fleet-footed, intricately choreographed production, whose frequent leaps from cartoony cuteness to over-the-top violence are both shocking and hilarious.”-LA WEEKLY, Feb. ‘08

“The entire town will be played by 10 actors who will be onstage the entire time, switching characters -- sometimes even having conversations with themselves. Also, we want all the music for the show to be performed live onstage by folk/gothic bluegrass.
The crowd is equally important throughout, so that the court becomes a cockpit, an arena, with the active spectators on all sides of it." -- We thought we'd do it with the townspeople functioning as a Greek chorus, commenting on the action and participating as characters as needed. All the casting for the show will be very non- traditional so even the lines of male/female roles will be blurred. ”-Tiger Reel

Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee opened on Broadway in January 1955 earning Tony Awards; then made into a film in 1960 based on the play; and three television remakes. In 2007 it was brought back to Broadway in a revival and was just a relevant as it was in 1955 when it first premiered.

Director Tiger Reel has been working in LA theatre for the past ten years. Tiger is the founding Artistic Director of the Upstate Shakespeare Festival and a co-founding Artistic Director of Quantum Theatre Company. He is currently the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Action! Theatre Company. Named by Pasadena Weekly in 2001 as "Director of the Year", Reel's shows have won numerous praise from critics and audiences for his inventive, creative and audacious re-interpretations of classical theatre.
