Over at the Odyssey, Sight Unseen Productions is presenting a worthy follow up to their previous Quarterlife, one of the best written and acted new plays of the past year. Their latest piece is Andy Mitton's funny and suspenseful A Year Without Spring. Once again, Clark Freeman's company has assembled a top notch quartet of young actors (Mariah Sussman, Eric Bloom, Robert Youngs, and Michael Laurino--all of them excellent) who disappear into their roles. Bloom and Laurino especially shine as an Iraq War deserter and the small town cop in his pursuit, and Sussman is delightfully (and only occasionally irritatingly) quirky as the ditzy heroine Razi. Did I mention that it's very funny, and offbeat, and romantic, and unpredictable? This one had me both entertained and on the edge of my seat. A fantastic play and production.
